was certainly a better use of Lance Archer compared to him in AEW
This post is proof that nostalgia is a disease
Davey Boy Smith Jr. fucking sucked. That man has no talent.
It’s a shame because they were both way better as singles guys, DBS Jr did legit great MMA style matches with Shibata and Nakamura. DBS pitched things but eventually fell out with Gedo and that’s why he went.
Archer was always great singles but took DBS leaving and forcing Archer to be used as singles, for people to actually see that.
Unfortunately both were in New Japan in an era where singles heavyweight scene was stacked and heavy tag division was dire, so they were slotted there.
Shit I miss Archer being more than a dude who’s there
KES was fun
Whole faction was A+. These two specifically seemed like they could beat any 2 person clean
They deserve to be mentioned in the same conversation as Hansen/Brody and Williams/Gordy.
Archer was so much improved by ditching Davey, even his G1 work improved as soon as he wasn’t carrying that guy.
Harry is a physical specimen but tactfully, he lacks charisma. And his matches are at best average.
Really? I mean they were a pretty good team and they had a good long run in New Japan. I wouldn’t have said they were ever a particular highlight on the card or anything.
Harry was always a pretty average wrestler, to be honest. Archer was a pretty good big man. They had a good physical presence and everything. I can’t remember a single stand out match they had in all the time they were with New Japan.
I just find it surprising some of the things people get nostalgic about and I wonder how much that nostalgia distorts their perception. I don’t think anybody was really talking about how great these guys were during their run.
– Lance Archer = Don Callis Family
– Davey Boy Smith Jr. = Voluntarian Hero of AJPW
I don’t know why new Japan never pushed him as a singles star past the iwgp US title and why AEW refuses to push him at all. His work with Jake the snake was incredible and I’m beyond shocked that he’s just another background juggernaut in the Ron callus family to use to help fletcher.
