First-Time Passport Application

Hello everybody,

I hope my inquiry is okay here! I assume there are other part-Japanese people that have been in a similar situation to me on this sub.

My background is a bit complicated but I am a US+UK citizen (and hold both of these passports) and technically a Japanese citizen too but I don’t have the Japanese passport yet. I want to apply and get it for the first time. I know I am a triple citizen but I have had all three from birth so from all of the research that I’ve done, it should be acceptable.

I am living between Austria and Denmark at the moment so I’m considering applying at either the embassy in Copenhagen or Vienna. Does anybody have any experiences applying at either? I wonder if how smoothly and/or successful my application will be depends somewhat on the employee(s) and/or policies of either of the institutions because this multiple citizenship rule seems kinda a gray zone.

I just got the Koseki Tohon from where my Japanese family is registered so I understand I need to do this in the next 3-6ish months. I am 20 years if it matters.

One edit… Chicago may be an option too. If anyone has had experiences there as well, it would be helpful.
