  1. Not praise, particularly, but something that made me happy: for months I’ve been wrestling with a particular piano piece under the impression it was written as a practice exercise for kids or beginners. I felt bad that I just couldn’t get it. This week I found out it had been written as a technical challenge for *professional* pianists. Now playing even a single bar feels like a triumph.

  2. 1 – from tomorrow I am a permanent employee.  Got a very small pay rise as well.

2 – my health issues which started in April seem to have cleared up.  Feeling pretty normal again.

3 – praise whike it lasts – I’m the only one at home without a cold.  So I can help out wifey until she gets better and I get sick.

  3. bought some, what looks like, really cool photography books of Tokyo in the early Heisei era. I had went to a bookstore that speicializes in photography to find such books, but the owner acted like I asked the strangest thing lol. Maybe he wasn’t used to talking to foreigners who stammer Japanese, or I botched it. Anwyays, went home and looked up book publishers within Japan, and found some sweet books. Really excited for them to come, hoping to spark some curiousity/wonder again for the city I live in.

  4. Got my Japanese callsign for amateur radio. My name was spelled wrong so I need to figure out what to do about that. I also passed my US General test (2nd of 3 levels) the other day so I can upgrade my license here (well, if/when the US government opens back up and my new status is in the FCC database).

Rolling in the Jalapenos. My freezer is filled to the brim and I’ve started dehydrating some and making spice powders.

  5. Yesterday I finally got surgery done to fix a bad ingrown toenail. Extremely uncomfortable procedure and walking home was a struggle, but I finally got to see it this morning when I changed the gauze and it actually looks really nice. Can’t wait for it to heal enough to go back to living normally.

  6. Husband got me a super cute little tray to carry my tea and teapot upstairs to the office.

    I love it.

  7. About a month ago, I took my wedding ring off to do some kettlebell stuff in my home office and halfway through it disappeared. I took *every single thing* in that room apart looking for it, but no dice. Then last night, as I’m reading to my kids before bedtime, my youngest is flipping through this collection of ‘learn to read’ books and says “what’s this?” as he’s holding my ring. Apparently it slipped into one of the sleeves inside of it and I didn’t notice when I went through it before putting it back in his room. Extra snacks for the kiddos tonight!

I’ve also made it a goal in the last month to be consistent about counting calories, working out and actually doing my hobbies instead of (just) doomscrolling and I think I’ve actually mostly stuck to it.

  8. Birthday went great. Husband got me a watch with diamonds on it.

French lunch with a beautiful view.

And now I’m heading to Arashiyama for a matcha tea party with him.

  9. Three day weekend and got an event with the chonaikai. We’re going to a hotel buffet by bus, should be fun.
