Hi there, I’ll be attending university in Tokyo and was wanting to stay in a hmlet apartment. Since I’ll be attending the school for 4 years I will be having my lease go 12 months at a time and renewing it 3 times. Hmlet is asking me to have the entire year’s worth of rent x2 upfront to show for the application when I was under the impression I just had to show I was capable of paying for the rent monthly and consistently, not having that large of an amount before I even go.
For further context, I will be working remotely and also part time. I will be receiving money from FAFSA for each term for living expenses as well as arriving with $10,000 converted to yen before I go. The problem is me not having the money as of right now but will most certainly be able to pay for it as the year goes on with the multiple sources of income I’ll be having.
They don’t seem to be budging on this and appear to be wanting it all to be shown now. Is there nothing I can do to show that I will have the money to pay for all of it I just don’t have it now? Do I show my financial aid award letter showing that I will be receiving the rest of the amount needed for the application and that I just don’t have that money in my account right this second? I wouldn’t be applying for this if I knew I wasn’t going to be able to pay for it long term.
