Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route (Toyama-Nagano)

Hi, I have a few questions about the trip.
I am now in Kanazawa, tomorrow we are heading to Tokyo, I just found the route while searching what to do between the cities.

Can I just show up at the station and buy tickets directly without reservation?

What other tips or info I need to know before doing this?
