Doing Kojin Jigyo on a student Visa?

Hi. I've been thinking about this for a bit, but haven't been able to find a an answer to whether is this is allowed or not, because all sources say different things. I'm currently on student visa with 28hr permission. Does this allow me to do some form of kojin jigyo instead of working a baito a 7/11? I've been working in IT as a sysadmin for 3 years, and freelancing for many more also in IT before coming here, so I'd like to continue doing that while i'm still in language school. I've been thinking maybe I could start doing small computer repair jobs locally in my town and for ppl in my school, and maybe even take some freelance gigs online. Would this be allowed as long as it's under 28hr?

  1. It is allowed though in addition to the 28hr limit, there is also an unofficial income limit as well. It shouldn’t significantly exceed what you would normally make on part time jobs as a student.

  2. I seem to remember not being able to set up a kojin jigyou outside of spouse, PR, and other long-term statuses, but I couldn’t find it in the sea of business manager visa articles in a couple minutes.

I did IT work part time while a language school student for a company and quit language school to be hired on (though I frequently encourage people to finish their studies instead of jumping to a job as I did).

  3. It’s allowed as long as it’s under 28 hours. Make sure you notify your local tax office that you’ve begun operations, and file your 確定申告 every year.

Source: myself, I did this as a student while in graduate school. Got my PR approved this year with no problems or issues.
