Why is it so easy to get contact lenses here…?

I just got a contact lens fitting a few days ago and I’m honestly kind of shocked how easy it is to get not only prescription lenses but circle/cosmetic lenses over the counter here. It’s kind of a culture shock for me, but how is this regulated? When I used to get contacts back in my birth country, I had to get each brand fitted and could only purchase contacts directly through my doctor.
