Hello guys!
As an enjoyer of Onsen I tend to visit the local Onsen bathhouse of any place I travel to in Japan, so I can say that I have been in at least one Onsen on all 4 main islands (and many many more in Honshu) However, what baffles me is the large gap in size between Onsens anywhere else and in Hokkaido. For some reason, Hokkaido has absolutely enormous Onsen bathhouses compared to anywhere else I’ve been. for example in Noboribetsu, the bathhouse I went to had about 20 pools, in a hall that felt like a big gym hall. Another onsen there was of similar proportions. They dwarf any of the many onsens I’ve been to in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. Is it just coincidence, and did I simply miss out on the super sized ones elsewhere, or is there a specific reason behind it?
