The Meteorological Agency issued the warnings for Hachijo town, Aogashima village, Toshima village, Niijima village, Kouzushima village, Miyake village and Mikurajima village.
Officials are urging utmost caution, saying that violent winds and high waves could trigger a large-scale disaster that occurs only once every few decades. The agency says it may issue warnings for additional areas, and warns of the formation of bands of heavy rain clouds.
