Hi all,
I’m an Indian student exploring the possibility of doing an undergraduate degree in business or economics in Japan. I have a couple of key questions and would greatly appreciate insight from Indian (or other international) students already in Japan.
1. Financial/Part-Time Work Question:
- Under a student visa in Japan, I know part-time work is permitted — but from what I’m reading, it’s not enough to cover everything. For example:“part-time work alone is not sufficient to cover all school expenses and cost of living.” 日本留学情報サイト Study in Japan+2日本留学情報サイト Study in Japan+2 The average part-time monthly income reported for privately financed international students is about ¥59,000. 日本留学情報サイト Study in Japan
- So, in your experience: can you save money or at least be comfortable with living & study costs solely by combining tuition + living + part-time work? Or do you still need significant family support/other savings?
- Also: how high are living costs in your city (rent, food, transport)? Does the working-hour limit (e.g., up to 28 hours/week during term) feel restrictive? Embassy of Japan in the United States+1
2. English-Taught Business / Economics UG Programs:
- I’m looking for undergraduate programs in Japan (business/econ) that are taught in English (or primarily English) so I don’t have to be fluent in Japanese at the start.
- If you’re studying such a program (or know someone), can you share: which university, how much of the program is in English vs Japanese, how competitive admissions are, and how you are finding it?
- Some I found:
- Nagoya University of Commerce & Business (NUCB) offers a “Global BBA” in English. masterroots.net+1
- Sophia University (Tokyo) has the “International Business and Economics” in its Faculty of Liberal Arts which has English-taught components. Wikipedia+1
- Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) offers a BBA with majors in business/economics and options in English. standyou.com+1
- If you know other universities (especially ones popular with Indian students), I’d love to get a list + your impression of them.
3. General Advice:
- What surprised you about living/studying in Japan (culture, cost, language, finding work)?
- Would you do anything differently if you had to start over?
Thanks for reading this far , i would appreciate any kind of helps!!!!!
