After living in the same place for 5 years, I was recently notified that my rent will increase by 1000 per month for the next renewal, from 99k to a nice and round 100k.
Now to be clear, I'm not complaining at all about a measly increase of 1k/mo over 6 years and I have zero intention of contesting it. But this has got me thinking: How much would your rent have to increase before you consider asserting your tenant rights under Japanese law to contest it? Have you actually contested a rent increase before?
