I 27F, moved to Osaka last year and been working for a Japanese company. I recently have found myself really becoming helpless while communicating and feel like my Japanese is getting worse. I also have been making a lot of mistakes in documentations and stuff (all of which are in Japanese). I also think it is affecting my productivity and confidence and to make it worse I have been getting almost no sleep recently because I am trying my best to understand messages, reference documents and try my best to get something done.
When I ask a question to my colleagues, it's usually "what are you trying to ask?" or "have you read some other documents".
I blame myself for not improving my Japanese proficiency before starting to work in Japan.
Did anyone go through a similar experience? How did you handle it?

By learning to relax and not sweat the small stuff. Grow up I guess.
Take it one step at a time, and while your shortcomings might feel all over the place, don’t forget that you are also bringing a unique skillset with you to contribute either now or eventually.
Also, Japanese work culture in general expects people to be ready to contribute 2-3 years down the line, not immediately (in general, I should emphasize). So for now, as long as you are doing your best and are learning while communicating, you are meeting expectations.
Lastly, I’d add to stay curious and interested in surroundings and people. That kind of coworkers are usually good to have around.
If you were not prepared and qualified for the job then you still have time to look for another job while taking Japanese classes.
Good luck with your job and language learning!
If you are worried about your job situation, you should consider joining the union/a union.
why not use ai tools to verify your document first?
