Hi all. I’m currently planning on heading back to Japan for roughly four weeks early next year and wanted to know your experience with the weather around that time and if you have any recommendations for cities to visit or activities.
Main details:
I (22M) have a new job lined up that starts in early March (graduating from uni in early December and have an internship organised), so I was intending to quit my current job either at the end of this year or early next year and take some time before starting my new job to travel to South Korea and Japan for about six weeks in January and February. I will be travelling solo for the duration of the trip.
I went to Tokyo last year for nine days, but outside of a day trip to Enoshima I didn’t leave the city, so I would like to see a lot more this time around.
My current plan is as follows:
~2 weeks in SK (Seoul and Busan)
Tokyo – 4 nights (day trip to Fuji)
Nikko – 2 nights
Kanazawa – 2 nights
Kyoto – 2 nights
Osaka – 6 nights (day trips to Kobe and Himeji)
Hiroshima – 3 nights (day trip to Miyajima)
Back to Tokyo – 5 nights (day trips to Mito and Enoshima and/or Kamakura)
None of this is booked or set in stone at all so I am completely flexible.
I have a lot of other places that I’d like to see, but I’m not sure how well I’d be able to fit them in or if they’re worth doing in the winter.
Namely: Yokohama, Fukuoka, Beppu (or another hot spring resort town), Niigata, Sapporo (and Hokkaido in general) and Sendai just to name some big ones.
Also – I’m from the central east coast of Australia and am used to daily temperatures of 25C+, but I can deal to winter temperatures of like 10C pretty well. I know that it will likely be much colder in Japan, so for people from a similar climate – how did you find it/manage. It was cool in Tokyo last year but it was also really good weather and stayed above 10C during the day for most of the time I was there, though I’ve heard early in the year can be a lot cooler.
Any suggestions or recommendations that you have are very welcome 🙂
