SBI NISA middle name problem

So I opened an account with SBI and want to add money from my regular account, but I can’t link my account online, as the SBI account did not have enough space to enter my middle name in full.

I called them earlier and they told me to talk to my bank, but at the bank I was told that this isn’t their problem as my account‘s name is correct.

I‘m a little bit lost on how to proceed from here, did anyone have the same problem? How can I get my NISA running?

Thanks a lot in advance.

  1. Same boat here. No solution so far.

Still, while you may not be able to link your account (for direct access as funds) you can still use other ways to deposit money from the bank account.

  2. My name didn’t fit in the online form either, so I filled up the physical form at SBI and they were somehow able to enter my full name into my account.

  3. This is a big problem with Japanese banks and NISA in general. I had the same issue with Rakuten.
(Bank required 3 names as on official ID, NISA only had input boxes for first and last names, both boxes had a character limit leaving no way to enter my middle name in either box, account link rejected as names won’t match)

Basically your only option is to visit a branch in person (or on the phone if there is no branch, as is the case for Rakuten) and refuse to leave until the problem is solved. Your name is your name and they can’t dictate to you that it’s wrong.

100% of the time their system *is* capable of accommodating you – but there will be a lot of teeth sucking and someone will eventually just write your name on a piece of paper, make a phone call and the system will magically work.

When I log onto my NISA account these days my full name, including middle name, is displayed, despite being significantly over the claimed character limit (and the link with Bank works fine too)
