Hello! Will be traveling the Tohoku region next week. The Autumn forecast (was hopeful, but not surprised) shows the best time for seeing the autumn leaves had already passed. My question is, will it still be worth it to go? As in, what sights to expect? If not, then where else would be good to go? Was thinking Yamadera. Thank you for any help!

Well, it’ll still be a nice bit of nature, just without the coloured foliage.
No foliage. You can google for photos.
I enjoyed Yamadera a lot more than Oirase Gorge (both during peak autumn colors) as the footpath of the latter was way too close to the road for cars/buses for my liking and the scenery was nice but not astounding. If it is just going to be barren tree branches without leaves nor snow at OG, then I don’t think it’s worth the time and money to go.
Defintely too late for fall colors.
Yamadera is quite nice, at all times of the year, and in the next two weeks you should be able to see fall colors in action there:

One of the highlights around Sendai, assuming you are staying there at least a night.
Plenty of other great destinations in Tohoku.
Two words: live cams. Japan has lots of live camera feeds that show cities, airports, mountaintops, etc. It is the best way to see what the weather is like at any given time of day or year. I postponed my trip up to Mt moiwa bc the live feed showed zero visibility. I recommend skylinewebcams and meteoblue. FYI, the search features on skylinewebcams sucks so google the name name of the site plus Japan. Good luck
