Difficult decision

Hi,

I recently got accepted to a language school that would help me get a student visa. However, after a lot of research and contemplation, I'm not so sure that going to Japan on a student visa in order to job hunt during the semester, and hopefully receive a job offer, would be the most logical method for me right now. The school would not assist in extending/changing my visa over to a designated activities visa (or job search visa), so I have just about 4-5 months to land a job. If it doesn't happen, I may end up wasting time and money as I already have an N2. I do plan on taking N1, but that is another story.

So, I was wondering if applying from the US, my home country, to jobs in Japan is possible? I know Gaijinpot has a category, "overseas OK" or something along those lines, and another site I really like, WorkJapan.jp, has a variety of jobs other than IT and teaching English, but I think you have to be residing in Japan to be eligible for most of them.

In the end, I withdrew from the school. It was nice because they said I was welcome to re-apply at a different time due to unrelated life circumstances.

Have any of you guys applied to a job from overseas, had the company process a CoE for you to take to your Japanese consulate or embassy in your country to get a working visa? I assume the laws may be different depending on the country, however.
Is applying online and getting an interview and job offer possible at all?

If anyone has advice or information, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm also curious to hear how you got to Japan if you don't mind me asking.

Thank you!
