Today I went to the Japanese embassy in Berlin to apply for my second Digital Nomad visa. As with last time, I expected the process to take an indefinite amount of weeks (when I applied the first time, it took about 5 weeks).
To my surprise, they handed me a paper with a fixed date to pick up the visa, just 10 days from today, assuming everything goes smoothly. Apparently, I’m the first person to apply for this visa a second time. The lady at the counter even chuckled as she said it, as if I were a bit crazy for doing so (fair enough, honestly lol). She also explained that they’re now processing this type of visa directly at the embassy, so there’s no need to wait for Japanese Immigration on their end anymore.
For research purposes, has anyone recently that applied for the Digital Nomad Visa also experienced this short, fixed timeframe on when to pick it up? From what I've gathered, every country / embassy seems to handle this differently, so I was just curious if the embassies in Germany are unique in this aspect.
