Just a bit of background: I’m currently an electrical engineer at a fairly large Japanese construction company. During construction, a site usually has several contractors, electrical, motors & HVAC, and of course the main contractor. Sometimes the client even brings in their own engineering group to keep tabs on us.
Anyway, during these projects, I can’t help but feel annoyed by how often I’m told not to do something because they’d rather hand the responsibility to another contractor or the client’s engineering team. That way, if something goes south, we can save ourselves. I get it, but the number of times projects get delayed because of this is honestly too many to count. It’s like playing hot potato.
It’s also incredibly frustrating because you know you have the knowledge and expertise to finish something, but you’re told not to do it just to avoid blame. It really hurts the overall project timeline—and honestly, it kills the desire for innovation in me.
Anyone in the same boat?
