hey guys! i’ll be moving to japan soon for language school and they’ve provided me 2 dorms to choose. will not be planning on changing houses, probably staying for the entire year. both have their perks but i want some new advice too:) (long thought dump ahead)
1st room:
– right opposite is a big foreign uni, which means there might be foreigners around and i won’t feel so out of place?
– there’s a restaurant right beside, but might mean insects are more prone to entering the house?
– living room is 6畳
– water fee is not included in rent
– general dorm
– balcony railing is not concrete blocks, more like thin metal strips (visibility , no privacy)
– also there’s like no space on the balcony?? it’s just a step down and a little more space in front and then the railings
– building & balcony is facing the major road (don’t think it’s good for a girl + privacy, i feel like i won’t be opening the balcony often, esp if i’m on the lower level)
– the kitchen area is quite long, bc there’s an extra space for chopping etc ! there’s also an overhead vent, very proper
– white themed bathroom, looks kinda looks ljke how a tiny hotel toilet would be bc of the basin
– there’s a mall down the street
– downtown area
– less than 10mins walk from school
– instead of a peep hole there’s a strip of glass on my main door?? ( i have to put curtains)
– no natural light in kitchen, just a led light (people might be able to know i’m home if i don’t cover the glass on my door well???)
– kitchen is at the entrance, separated from living, the toilet in between both
– 5 levels, no lift, won’t know my actual unit until a further date (high chance i’m on the 2nd floor)
– there’s a conbini right beside
– there’s also an izakaya too, kind of worried since it might be unsafe and noisy at night
– on a major road
2nd room:
– around the same area but a lot further up
– a straight line down to my school, but a 17min walk
– living room is 6畳
– bus stop is where the mall is, like a few blocks down (quite far)
– 3 levels max, stairs only (high chance in living on the 3rd floor)
– more of a student dorm (safer & private)
– neighbourhood area
– there’s a wardrobe, and an extra window if i’m lucky enough to be at the corner unit!
– balcony has a concrete wall (and enough space to put things, good privacy)
– mall, fast food, sushi chain, conbini, sb, just straight down the road
– 2 unis around my area, at the front and one behind
– not sure about the direction of room yet bc the school doesn’t get to decide on that
– there’s a laundromat in the building
– 10mins to one station & ward office, 20 mins to other stations
– there’s a railway somewhere behind the house
– honestly it looks more put together and neat on the outside, and there aren’t too many tenants
overall im leaning more towards the second mansion bc of the privacy and safety, although it’s a long walk down😭 probably have to get a bike tho. but also despite the second house being further, i can either take a straight bus or walk or bike, but if my house is too close to my school, it’s more likely there’s no bus route to my school, and not worth my money lol😭fyi both houses have the same mall franchise nearby but at different location, the one closer to the second house has a daiso tho! i’m also okay with road noises, as i’m already used to the sound of vehicles, and there’s a carpark right below my current room. also if i’m on the 3rd floor i wouldn’t get disturbed by upstairs neighbors. but i really like how close the other apartment is, and the uni and kitchen too.
id like advice on which room is better, and how the weather will affect my room, etc the summer heat. and if it’s worth staying further from school, thanks in advance!!
