Went to Takao today as it was supposed to have optimum autumn leaves, so here’s a quick summary
- base was red, but the leaves were green the higher i went.
- lots of people, 30 min wait for lift at 10am, 50 min wait around 12 pm. People who took the Inari route did it in about 60+ min
- summit is crowded as usual, bring those blue tarp if you have any.
- you could go up with shorts, and long sleeved shirt+hoodie at this temp, i wore too much and took off my vest. But a wind breaker should be in your bag. Jeans may kill you if you are bad with heat. I followed this guide https://takao-fumoto.com/takaosan-navi/takaosan-autumn-outfit-guide/
- bring sunglasses if you intend to go in the AM
- no bears 🐻

Thanks for your report, I’m planning to go next week. What’s with the blue tarp, do you mean I need to bring one if I want to have a pic-nic on the summit?
Thank you for your service
Thank you! I’m planning to go in two weeks. Probably skip school to go on a weekday when it’s not too crowded. And thank you for the heat warning! I overheat easily and never know exactly what to bring.
If I’m taking the lift and easy trails, do I need hiking shoes? Are sneakers ok?
I went to Takaosan today as well! Did trial 6 going up and trail 4 + trail 1 coming down. Could confirm, no bears lol
The first two pictures are giving the Black Myth Wukong vibe at chapter 4’s secret stage
I was out there last Sunday, a little more green at the base than you saw, but absolutely swamped with people as well.
I am planning on going tomorrow and thinking about what to wear, as it was exceptionaally warm in Tokyo. Thanks for the report!
