Hello,
I hope this is the right sub, as the problem is Japanese residence related. If there’s a more suitable sub, please let me know and my apologies if this is not the correct sub.
My family is currently residing in Japan, and we plan to visit US for a few months. The kids are young so it will be their first visit to the USA. We are US citizens.
I want to get some sort of travel health insurance. However, all the Japanese travel insurers told me that US citizens are not eligible for Japanese travel insurance. My kids are dual citizens (Japanese and US passports) and will enter USA on an American passport.
I searched the internet, and all the places selling travel insurance tell me my kids are not eligible if they hold US citizenship. I called Japanese travel companies, and they also said my kids are not eligible since they are US citizens.
So, I am not sure what to do. I don’t plan to go to any doctors or seek any medical care in the US, this is only for unexpected accidents. In the US you can get hit with a million dollar medical bill after just a few days in the hospital, so I want to make sure my family is covered for any unforeseen medial emergencies.
Any advice on how to get my kids health insurance for a couple months in the US would be much appreciated.
