My family and I was in Shinjuku on out way to DQ. While we were waiting at the light across the street, I noticed a man probably in his mid 30s trying to talk to some(6-7) female students. They were in their school uniforms and appeared to be 14-17. I honestly have no idea how old they were. The guy had a beer in his hand and looked kind of drunk. He was speaking Japanese to them and they were trying to ignore him. The girls were standing/leaning on a structure. He was maybe standing 2-3 feet from them. My dad instincts kicked in so I asked the girls if I could stand between one of the girls and the man. They looked relieved and said arigato. I didn’t want to just leave them so I told my wife to go ahead and go to DQ and I would go find them later. I stood with them for a couple of minutes more.
Did I overreact? Is this common in Tokyo?
