Does bread in Japan taste sickly sweet to you?

Idk if it’s just me, but a lot of common baked goods in Japan when you go to a bakery has this weird sweet taste that puts me off, sometimes even nauseous when I’m not feeling well. I think it has to do with some kind of syrup or sauce that they brush on the bread before baking? I’m not sure, but it’s a very distinct taste that some baked goods here don’t have. Japan is amazing for pastries and baked goods but it’s such a waste for me because I can’t handle that weird flavor and it feels like half of all baked goods have it.
