Will Japan continue to follow the US in hiking prices? Should they?

So the Japanese government is raising the departure tax and all of their visa acquisition fees, they said, to bring prices more in line with what the US and other countries charge.

Today the Trump administration announced that non-residents visiting the top 11 national parks in the US will pay $100 (¥15,600) PER PERSON in addition to the current admission fees, as of Jan 1.

Personally I think that’s crazy high. Japan doesn’t charge anything for entry to national parks, should they? Should they for tourists?

The only thing I agree with the US situation is that they are targeting foreign tourists, not US residents. The Japanese departure tax and visa fees affect us living here.

Japan needs to start making more money off of tourists instead of giving them discounted rail passes and easy duty free
