I'm here in Japan on a working holiday and I've been faced with the fact that, unfortunately, my Japanese study has found me still finding it really hard to make friends at bars. I know from experience at home I've had friends who spoke almost no English but we had some great times and so I've decided to become that person when speaking to new Japanese people, someone who is fun to hang around despite my desolate level of Japanese.
My question is, does anybody have any fun ways they can interact with people despite the language barrier? Unfortunately so far I've felt like a bit of a burden to Japanese speakers as they have to speak so simply to me. Any ways I can overcome that and still have fun, while I'm taking the long journey to improve my speaking ability?
I've not really had this issue in other countries to be honest, and although my Japanese is much better than any other country I've travelled to I've found Japan the hardest country to connect to people in!
