Found this Reddit post from 5 years ago asking about general yarn/craft stores in Kyoto, but I'm looking specifically for big quantities not necessarily high quality.
Like back in the U.S. I would go to Michael's and buy the Caron one-pound yarn. Something like that, or at least a little bigger than the smaller skeins I've been finding here.

I second the recommendation on Yuzuwaya! Their stores stock 200g balls, about the size of my head. They had some promotional sale a month ago, but if not at the promo tables, there’s usually some stashed in the aisles. Plenty of colour and choices, mixes of wool and synthetic fibers, and many outlets around. I recommend getting a Yuzuwaya membership.
