I want to buy a house with a Japanese primary residence mortgage. We plan to make it our home. However, we are international couple and could live outside of Japan for a year in the future. We want to rent out the home whenever we are away but come back later to live in it.
I'm fully aware that there will be a clause in the contract that states renting out is not allowed because investment mortgages are different. This is our primary home but with some gaps where we want to rent it out.
Has anyone had any experience making this work? An investment mortgage has much higher rates so it's really not an option for us. But we also want to make some rent that can help cover parts of the mortgage while we are away.
Any particular banks that are more lenient on this?
