Moving as Indie Game Dev?

Hey, so I'm an indie game developer making around 60k a year from Steam. Been thinking about moving to Japan for a while now.

I'm trying to figure out the visa situation. I don't have a university degree, but I'm willing to put in serious work learning Japanese to a N1/N2 level. I know student visa is probably the easiest route – I'm totally willing to do 2 years at a language school. But what happens after that? What are my actual options for staying long-term?

I also saw something about artist visas but not sure if game dev counts or what the requirements are for that.

Main questions:

  1. If I do language school, what can I realistically transition to after?
  2. Can I keep earning from my games on Steam while on a student visa?
  3. Is there a path from student visa to something more permanent if I want to keep doing indie dev?
  4. Should I even bother with student visa or is there a better route for self-employed creative work?

I want to keep making games, maybe eventually register a business there(in far future). Just trying to understand if this is actually doable or if I'm better off waiting?

Thanks in advance!
