  2. Hyper-sensitive noses. Had a coworker complain of someone else smelling like soap. Like I know perfume is off limits in the office or strongly smelling deodorant, but soap? What’s next, hair can’t smell like shampoo?

  3. Anyone have a recommendation for where to go in person to buy merino wool garments (baselayer and socks, maybe some other things) in person? I don’t fit neatly into the Japanese sizes and would rather not play the return game with someplace.

    I’m in Tohoku, but chains work. I go to Tokyo a couple of times a year so that’s an option as well. Thanks!

  4. I just learned that I can disable the cooking finished reminder sound (取り出し忘れ防止) on some current Toshiba microwave models. In a world dominated by rebranded Midea microwaves that can’t do this, and forsaken by Panasonic and Hitachi who used to make models that can do this, there is only one merciful lord and his name is Lord Toshiba.

  5. Anyone has any advice on how to get a bank account which allows me to transfer(pay rent) to my landlord? I was misinformed by JP Post bank. I’m on a working holiday visa. It’s really starting to bother me how much paperwork and misinformation is given here. Like i’m stressed out and wasting so much time and energy getting something simple done.

  6. So… I have *literally* close to **zero** workload ever since they moved me to this mysterious “〇〇支援室.” I’m the **室長**, by the way… and also the **only** person in the entire “room.” Yes. I am the manager of myself. Peak efficiency.

    My “room” is under the CEO’s supervision, so I asked him directly:
    **“Do you guys want me to quit or what?”**

    And his answer?
    **“Oh no, we’re giving you freedom to excel and come back stronger.”**

    Bro. What am I? A Pokémon that needs to sit in a corner and recharge its HP?

    I swear I’m either dreaming or they’re doing the Japanese corporate version of “quiet firing,” except they can’t actually fire me… so they’re trying to bore me out of existence until I voluntarily evaporate.

    But here’s the part I *really* don’t get:
    **Why pay someone** ***more*** **than your actual engineers just to sit quietly in the corner like a decorative plant?**
    If you want me gone, at least give me a nice severance packet. I literally told them:
    **“Give me one year’s salary and I’ll leave.”**
    Still rejected!

    Even after 10 years in Japan, I still don’t understand how upper management decision-making works here. It’s like a secret shrine only accessible after a DLC I haven’t unlocked yet.

  7. has anyone here had success applying for a docomo card? It made me abbreviate my full name, and now it needs me to have the same name on the bank account?

    Is it just better to try elsewhere?

  8. I am having some problems with my mental health, more specifically very significant brain fog. I’m wondering if I can get a brain scan or something because I have had this problem for years and it might be getting worse.

    How do I go about seeing someone about this? Do I go to my local hospital or do I go to a mental health specialist?? I really don’t know, so if anyone has any idea would greatly appreciate some insight

    Also, when you inquire about something for sale on jmty, do you open up with:

    when people have contacted me about my own listings they do that. idk, I feel weird giving my name from the get-go being foreign/easily identifiable lol.
