Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get some suggestions because I’m in a bit of a dilemma about future work opportunities in Japan.
My partner (Japanese, currently working in my country) and I have decided to eventually settle down in Japan. He won’t have any issues finding work since he’s already a Japanese national with job experience.
In my case, I’m a licensed Interior Designer in my country and I also run a small business. However, I’m worried it might be difficult to land a job in Japan with my current resume, and I don’t have the time or financial capacity to study Interior Design again in Japan just to meet local qualification requirements.
I’m fluent in English, currently studying for JLPT N5, and working toward a TEFL certification. I’ll also be eligible for a spouse visa when we move. I’m definitely open to working in other fields like teaching, hospitality, admin, etc., as long as I can build a stable and independent life there.
If anyone has experience moving to Japan with a specialized career, or if you know alternative job paths that might be more accessible, I’d really appreciate your insights. I don’t want to be a trad wife. Thank you!
