Recently I was in the process of going through the steps to get a visa to work in Japan with a popular eikaiwa company. I received a digital CoE a couple weeks ago, but after much more careful deliberation decided the position was not a right fit for me and decided not to continue with the next step of applying for a visa at my embassy.
After letting my employer know my decision, they were understandably upset, but what was more concerning to me is that they informed me that "If the COE is withdrawn after it has been approved, it may affect any future attempts to come to Japan". I was wondering if anyone here had any knowledge into how true this is, as I probably would not have backed out if I knew it would have significant consequences for any future opportunities to work in Japan or enter on a tourist visa.
