Apologies if this is already posted but its hard to find an answer to this
Basically my situation is this: I applied to a language school for Jan 2026, followed all the prereqs and ended up getting my COE was approved in october, and the visa application was approved last friday. I was excited to move but there have been some serious events in my life the last week regarding my family. Details aren't important, but it means I need to delay by 3 months minimum
The school i'm attending also has semesters starting in April and July, both still have room, so that shouldn't be a problem. Not worried about the flight and other expenses, a lot of it is refundable anyway
The problem is if I don't go now that will mean my visa and COE will remain unused and will expire. So my main worry is that if I go to reapply will they see that i've already applied in the past 12 months and auto reject it? Only guidance i've found says you need to wait 6 months to reapply, but that is after a rejection which isn't the case here
Worst case scenario is I wait 6+ months to reapply, which is fine, but even then i'd still be worried that a previous visa that I left unusued would count against me. Do I also call the embassy and try to get them to cancel it so this doesn't happen? Do I leave it as is and try to work with my school to update the dates? Or does it even matter, should I just let it expire and reapply next month to get a new COE starting in april?
I already emailed my school but sometimes they are slow to reply and i'm worried its getting too late for changes. Any guidance is greatly appreciated if someone has been through a similar situation
