Japanese NAS thoughts

Looking to finally get my digital life in order. Too many photos, videos, various files I want to keep. So the idea of a NAS came about and it seems the best cost performance on Kakaku are Buffalo and IO-data. The non-Japanese NASs are 50% to 100% more expensive. Will these J-NASs be good enough, does anyone have reccomendations of one over another. Looking to spend as little as possible, at least a two bay, RAID 1 and 2 of more TB's.

PS, any good tools for sorting and culling photos (duplicates / out of focus).

Edit: Perfect what great thoughtful responses, thank you for your professional advice.

> Do you really need a NAS or do you just need extra storage?

(Slow golf clap), perfect question!

No, I do not actually need a NAS after hearing all of your recommendations. I guess what I really wanted was easy, fast, convenient and dirt cheap back up. I think I will, use multiple external drives (or leave a SATA cable hanging out of the rear and use bare drives) for infrequent back-ups, with at least one offsite and maybe one in the safe.

So, what do you think about renewed server drives on Amazon…….discuss? /s

Edit 2: I decided to keep it as simple as possible and just go with multiple back up drives for redundancy/offsite security, and simplicity. Less points of failure, good.

Thank you everyone for all the input and advice, I will come back and ask again in a year or two about NASs after I recover from buying DDR5 for my current build.
