Visa Financial proof question

I know that, to get my student visa, I need to show financial proof of at least about 2 million yen, but if, let's say, I manage to get myself a MEXT scholarship, do I still need to show that financial proof? Or is it at least lower, since I don't need to pay for tuition anymore?

On my embassy's site there's nothing about the the financial proof stuff, I even asked them directly about it and they said that the "Elegibility Certificate" requires that, which is obtained from Japan's emigration agency, which they have nothing to do with. So I'm a little lost.

Can anyone that also went on a MEXT scholarship enlighten me?
