Wolf watch: absent
Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Chase Owens, Yujiro Takahashi def Masatora Yasuda, Satoshi Kojima, Taichi — (6:45, Boston Crab)
-
Yasuda perplexingly has only one kneepad, on the same left knee he has taped up.
-
HoT attack right after the faces have entered the ring. Taichi and Chase end up legal.
-
HoT Shenanigans level: very mild.
Dick Togo SHO “Second Generation Dick Togo”, Don Fale, EVIL def Shoma Kato, Shuji Ishikawa, El Desperado — (5:47, Magic Killer)
-
Kato has found or re-earned his kneepads after them being gone for multiple shows.
-
In yesterday’s Backstage Comments, Dick said he was going on a business trip and dubbed his fill-in SHO “Second Generation Dick Togo.”
-
“Second Generation Dick Togo” promo: “I am Dick Togo, the second! We've gone through Aomori and Akita now to Shizuoka, we're really in the sticks! We'll easily beat you losers up!” And then the House attacks.
-
After a brief ringside brawl, EVIL brings Despe in the ring.
-
HoT Shenanigans level: light-moderate. Included Dick II dick contact.
-
Post match, Despe and Ishikawa get on the apron to talk some smack to EVIL and Fale, but HoT are in a good mood so they aren’t bothering with post-match attacks.
Katsuya Murashima, Boltin Oleg, Toru Yano def Daiki Nagai, War Dragons (Drilla Moloney, Shingo Takagi) — (6:17, Verdict)
-
Post entrances there’s various levels of trash talk between the teams, including Nagai fat-shaming Murashima. Yano calls out Shingo to start, and gets it.
-
This was good but skippable.
-
Post match, Drilla comes in to briefly butt foreheads and trash talk with Oleg. Shingo is arguing to the camera that there was something off with the pin.
Gedo, Gabe Kidd, Yota Tsuji def Tatsuya Matsumoto, Bishamon (YOSHI-HASHI, Hirooki Goto) — (6:11 Drill a Hole Piledriver)
-
Gabe has a wrap and sleeve on his right elbow.
-
Yota Tsuji is wearing his coat today in a fully-lit building, so either this has just been completely random or he was made aware of the fact that it came off kind of whiny.
-
Gabe is still annoyed at Tsuji over yesterday’s disagreement on incorporating hardcore tactics in their match, and declines a fist bump then just leaves the ring to stalk around ringside.
-
Matsumoto starts with Gedo.
-
Tsuji and Gabe tried to get along but it didn’t really work out, partly due to themselves and partly due to their opponents countering double-teams.
-
Would not be surprised if Matsumoto is half an inch shorter after that match-ending Piledriver.
-
Post match Gabe continues to be cold to Tsuji, and leaves separately from both he and Gedo.
WTL 2025 B Block: El Phantasmo, Hiroshi Tanahashi (2 points) def Monster Sauce (Alex Zayne, Lance Archer) (4 points) (point totals prior to today’s results) — (12:01, Thunderkiss ‘86)
-
Jado’s gone again.
-
After the entrances Archer leaves the ring by stepping over the top rope, ELP tries to get Tana to do the same but Tana no-sells it. ELP and Zayne start.
-
This was worth watching just for Tana in the closing moments.
-
Post match, Archer gets a mic and thanks Tana for this one last match (they have a long past history). He and Zayne shake hands and bow to Tana. (If you told me that getting to work with Tana one last time was Archer’s primary motivation for doing this tour, I’d believe you.)
-
Tana and ELP do fanservice as they leave.
-
Next Block Matches (7th): Tana/ELP vs Callum/GOK, Monster Sauce vs K.O.B
WTL 2025 B Block: Callum Newman, Great-O-Khan[w/JAY] (4 points) def SANADA[beach day version], Ren Narita (6 points) — (11:10, Eliminator)
-
Callum (whose right knee is taped) ditches his jacket as soon as he walks through the curtain and passes by GOK without acknowledging him as he heads to the ring to start a brawl.
-
After a bit of fighting in the crowd, Ren drags GOK to the ring by the beard.
-
HoT Shenanigans level: high. Nobu showed up.
-
Very interesting to see GOK not just get the pin, but give in and whack SANADA with his own guitar before doing so. UE also worked a bit less heel than I expected.
-
Post match, GOK briefly checks on Callum then shoves a YL away so he can put a foot on SANADA and pose.
-
Nobu helps SANADA leave, Ren very slightly ahead of them.
-
UE celebrate and leave together.
-
Next Block Matches: Callum/GOK vs Tana/ELP, Ren/SANADA vs Shota/Yuya
WTL 2025 B Block: Knock Out Brothers (OSKAR, Yuto-Ice) (4 points) def Ryohei Oiwa, Zack Sabre Jr.[w/Hartley Jackson] (4 points) — (13:43, K.O.B)
-
If you have not watched the recently-translated New Heroes documentary episode featuring Yuto, go do it ASAP. A great in-depth (as in-depth as NJPW would allow) look at who he is and why. I’ll link it in the comments.
-
After the entrances, Oiwa steps up to K.O.B, but Yuto and OSKAR walk right by him to get to Zack. Oiwa turns around and grabs Yuto by the waist to demand his attention, we end up with everyone shoving a little before the ref finally separates them.
-
Oiwa and OSKAR start.
-
Bomboclaat level: 2 (We also got a Bombozack, which is wild because I’d be surprised if Zack has a pass to say that word).
-
This was really good and worth watching. Add Oiwa to the list of guys that have great chemistry with Yuto.
-
Post match, Hartley goes over to help Oiwa. Yuto comes over and just kind of sizes Big Jag up before kneeling next to the still fallen Oiwa to taunt him a little. Then Zack comes over and Yuto and OSKAR both get in his face a little.
-
As they’re leaving OSKAR takes extra time to go taunt Zack (and Oiwa but only because he was also there) with his Tag title belt.
-
Next Block Matches: K.O.B vs Monster Sauce, Zack/Oiwa vs Fin/Hiromu
WTL 2025 B Block: Yuya Uemura, Shota Umino (4 points) def Hiromu Takahashi, David Finlay[w/Gedo] (4 points) — (18:56, Second Chapter)
-
Are Finlay and Hiromu getting along yet?: Not fully, but mostly.
-
Post entrances, Shota steps up and calls out Finlay to start, and gets it. Yuya encourages a Shota chant, but it doesn’t really catch on.
-
How much these teams are able to work cohesively was the big factor and that intrigue helped make the match definitely worth watching.
-
Post match, Gedo comes in to help Hiromu, while Finlay lays on the outside with Yuya. Yuya gets to his feet first and goes over to taunt Finlay a little, which leads to Finlay talking a lot of trash.
-
Now Gedo is out with Finlay, walking with him as the YL help Hiromu leave.
-
Shota has a mic: “Hiromu-chan, juniors and heavyweights, there's no hierarchy. It's that kind of hot fight that's the pride of NJPW. You can only see that kind of fight here in New Japan, so I want to do it again. [in English] David… next.” (from the aisleway, Finlay says a couple lines of snark in response)
-
Shota continues: “Thank you for all your support. This Yu-Sho tag team, what do you think? We are the future of Hontai, bright and shining. A lot has happened this year, but one thing I learned is that you should smile. Even as bad times might come, keep your head up and keep smiling. Watch pro-wrestling, smile again, and keep going, because we'll keep fighting for you! Keep coming and enjoy the wrestling!”
-
Shota and Yuya fistbump and pose together, then go out to do some fanservice.
-
