Internal Transfer to Tokyo (Global Media Agency) – 4 YOE Paid Social. Salary & Feasibility?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a Senior Executive (Paid Social) at a Global Media Agency in India and working with the Japanese team on Japanese accounts, with 4 years of experience managing large-scale campaigns (Meta, TikTok, Line).

I am planning an internal transfer to our Tokyo office. I know the Japan team is currently short-staffed on the Social side (they are pulling Search managers to cover Social), so I plan to pitch myself as an immediate technical hire who can handle execution while learning the language.

My Profile:

• Experience: 4 Years (Agency side).

• Japanese: JLPT N4 (studying daily).

• Visa: Degree holder, internal transfer track.

Questions:

  1. Salary: Is ¥6.5M – ¥7.5M realistic for a Senior Executive/Planner role with 4 YOE in Tokyo? Glassdoor is vague (¥5M-¥9M range).

  2. Language Barrier: For those in global agencies in Tokyo—is it common for backend execution/optimization teams to operate largely in English?
