Closing my LLC months after opening

Hi all –

Long story short, I need to close my LLC that was opened a few months ago.

There have been no business operations. Not even a corporate bank account. I am the only employee and the only item completed by the company has been setting up insurance and pension.

I've been given a quotation from an accountant who will manage the closure and all the accounting involved. The quote is north of 500,000 yen!

Corporate income tax filing from dissolution date to liquidation date accounting for about 300,000 yen of that amount.

This is mind-boggling. Especially since the company has only just been established, and has no operations.

I'm in the process of looking for alternative options but would love to hear any stories Reddit may have about this process.

Thanks!

  1. I’m curious what the 500,000 is for? Can you speak or understand Japanese? I had a look once for my own company just in case and it was like 40,000 to do myself. The final tax return should be minimal aswell cus it would be blank.

  2. We paid roughly half that for just the notification of closure, we did the final returns ourselves. It’s about right. Corporations in Japan ain’t cheap.
