I was thinking of testing myself for ADHD recently since I’m having strong suspicions and a lot if things in my past would make sense if this was the case. I went and got counseling at a place called ブレインクリニック in shinjuku-gyoen and they have a test you can take to figure out if you have it or not, and it costs 25,000 yen.
This aligns with all the other things I have read in the past about ADHD testing so I’m not bothered about the price at all. However, I’m concerned about the fact that it is called a 知能検査, which sounds like just an IQ test. They also separately have IQ testing as another unrelated option.
My concern is in the fact that I know Japan sometimes has a more backwards view of ADHD – that you can’t have it if your IQ is high. This seems to vary depending on the clinic you go to. I already have a good idea of my IQ since I had it tested at Mensa (passed) and my concern here is I’ll just end up paying good money for what’s essentially an IQ test just to then be told I can’t have ADHD because I scored too well.
Has anyone ever been tested at this clinic before? Or had a so called 知能検査 at any other clinic? Specifically in the context of testing for ADHD. It would be super helpful if I could hear about some other experiences to determine if I can expect a legit testing or not. Thank you.
