Wolf watch: absent
Yoshinobu Kanemaru, SANADA[disco ball version], Ren Narita def Katsuya Murashima, El Phantasmo, Hiroshi Tanahashi — (7:43, Cross Kneebar)
-
SANADA’s guitar today is bright yellow instead of regular wood. (May not be the first time he’s had it, just the first time I’ve noticed.)
-
So after the entrances the crowd was already starting to chant for Tanahashi. But ELP silenced them to get them to chant the American-style Ta-Na-Hashi (clap clap clapclapclap), and then to have Murashima try to get a “Go Ace” chant happening. This died a complete death and just confused the crowd, like a lot of ELP’s attempts to get chants going.
-
ELP starts with Nobu, it looks like a rare clean HiT start but then Ren and SANADA come in from behind.
-
HoT Shenanigans level: mild, at least for the match.
-
Post match, Ren goes out and grabs a chair then starts stomping on Tana. He goes to hit Tana with the chair but ELP intercepts and grabs the chair. HoT bail, ELP throws the chair up the ramp after him.
-
Once again we close with Tana alone in the ring and his music playing, and he does a bunch of fanservice as he leaves. This was his last match in Hiroshima.
Hartley Jackson, Ryohei Oiwa, Zack Sabre Jr. def Zane Jay, Monster Sauce (Alex Zayne, Lance Archer) — (7:36, Death Valley Bomb)
-
I want to note that in my last post I did somewhat undersell TMDK’s chances to advance. Their destiny isn’t solely in their hands but they do have a solid chance.
-
Monster Sauce are in fact 99% eliminated. They have a minor chance at going to a triple-threat sudden death match with Shota/Yuya and K.O.B.
-
After some shit talking, Zayne and ZSJ start; ZSJ angry because Taco Bell in Japan has no vegan food.
-
This was fun.
-
Post match, Zack/Zayne and Oiwa/Archer talk a little trash. Archer is annoyed at ZJ for taking the pin in every preview tag they lost.
Jakob Austin Young, Callum Newman, Great-O-Khan def Gedo, David Finlay, Hiromu Takahashi — (6:37, pinfall)
-
After the entrances, JAY and Callum step up to talk smack. War Dogs and Finlay start barking. JAY starts getting super heated and calls out Gedo, who just flips him the double bird.
-
Hiromu and GOK start instead.
-
Are Hiromu and Finlay getting along?: in their own special way… maybe. That special way still involves nonconsensual tossing.
-
Post match, Callum comes in to beat up Gedo for no reason. Finlay and Hiromu chase he and JAY out of the ring.
-
Finlay leaves to chase GOK and JAY up the ramp. Callum had been lingering in the aisles and starts heading out a side entrance, but Hiromu runs over and they brawl out the door.
Daiki Nagai, Knock Out Brothers (OSKAR, Yuto-Ice) def Shoma Kato, Yuya Uemura, Shota Umino — (8:20, Ice HIGH)
-
Yuya doesn’t do any fanservice but Shota gives a young fan of his in the front row one of his bracelets. I do not think this was an intentional disparity, but worth mentioning. Shota’s right elbow is still taped up.
-
K.O.B are starting to Naito their entrance a bit, I think they actually had to repeat the theme this time.
-
After the entrances, Yuya/Yuto and Nagai/Kato quickly get in each other’s faces and start shit talking/shoving. Meanwhile Shota steps up to OSKAR, who just ignores him and walks away.
-
After a minute or so they all separate so the match can officially start: Yuto with Yuya.
-
Bomboclaat level: 1.5
-
Post match, Shota and OSKAR butt chests on the outside for a minute. From in the ring K.O.B talk trash with their opponents, Yuto and Yuya again getting particularly heated.
-
OSKAR holds up his title and Shota comes in the ring to try and antagonize him but again OSKAR just ignores him until Shota leaves.
WTL 2025 A Block: Shuji Ishikawa, El Desperado (6 points) def Yujiro Takahashi, Chase Owens (2 points)
*(point totals prior to today’s results) — (9:14, schoolboy)
-
HoT attack in the closing syllables of Despe’s entrance announcement. After some double teaming from both teams, Chase and Despe are left in the ring.
-
HoT Shenanigans level: moderate. Backfired.
WTL 2025 A Block: Gabe Kidd, Yota Tsuji (8 points) def Satoshi Kojima, Taichi (2 points) — (10:30, Drill-a-Hole-Piledriver)
-
Gabe once again goes out into the crowd during his entrance.
-
Gabe calls out Taichi to start. But just like yesterday, Tsuji blind tags himself in. Gabe argues with Tsuji and Taichi takes advantage of the distraction.
-
This was good. The story of Tsuji being there to save Gabe from losing multiple times, but Gabe not caring and just winning on his own, was nice.
-
Post match, Tsuji sulks on the apron and leaves before they even get their winner announcement; turning around at the top of the ramp to have a brief staredown with Gabe.
-
Taichi comes back in the ring and butts heads with Gabe, then Gabe just kind of blows him off and leaves.
-
Taichi brings Kojima back in the ring and holds his hand up. Their Backstage Comments may be interesting.
WTL 2025 A Block: Toru Yano, Boltin Oleg (6 points) def Don Fale, EVIL (8 points) — (9:26, pinfall [they actually both pinned Fale])
-
EVIL, Fale, and Dick Two-SHO attack Yano and Oleg three seconds after they get through the curtain. Oleg (still taped up as usual) gets advantage and brings EVIL in the ring.
-
Eventually EVIL and Fale get both Yano and a Oleg handcuffed to the ring fencing. Count out tease, but Yano came prepared and had a spare key. But HoT attack, now Yano is free but all alone because Oleg is still cuffed.
-
YOH, who was on Japanese commentary, eventually gets involved and gets Oleg free.
-
HoT Shenanigans level: high. Dick-Two-dick. Nobu gets involved. YOH gets involved again.
-
Post match, YOH beats on EVIL and handcuffs him to the ring fence. YOH and Yano get their NEVER 6 belts and taunt EVIL with them as they leave.
-
Once EVIL is finally freed by the ref, he runs up the ramp to catch up to Yano/Oleg/YOH.
-
EVIL/Fale are eliminated. Tsuji/Gabe are confirmed 2nd place, winner of the main event gets 1st.
WTL 2025 A Block: Bishamon (YOSHI-HASHI, Hirooki Goto)[w/Tatsuya Matsumoto] (8 points) def War Dragons (Drilla Moloney, Shingo Takagi)[w/Daiki Nagai] (8 points) — (21:30, Shoto)
-
Goto and Shingo start.
-
This was every bit as good as you’d expect.
-
Post match, Shingo goes over to commiserate with Drilla. All four sell the effects of the match. Shingo talks a little shit to Goto and hugs Drilla before helping him out of the ring.
-
Goto: “Thank you for coming tonight! We have taken the top spot in the block and gotten to the semifinals. Two more until the trophy. We're chasing something nobody has ever done before and will make the impossible possible with our fourth win- stay with us to the very end! I feel great, so I'll let Yo-chan speak.”
-
YH: “I have one major memory from Hiroshima Sun Plaza. Back in 2006, a last minute sub meant that I was able to wrestle in the main event. The ngiht before I sprained my back, I thought I couldn't wrestle. I took a painkiller and still couldn't move but somehow some way i got to the building and was still on the card. As I waited for my entrance the pain finally faded away. What I mean to say is that however bleak things can look, if you have hope in your heart you can do anything. Hope is such an important word to NJPW. And as a symbol of hope, I want us to do a Zan-mai, this time with a new face. Matsumoto, get in here.”
-
Matsumoto comes into the ring. YH tells him “ I would like for us to do the Zan Mai together, but you don't get to do it yet. Just come here for the pose. You be a fish.“
-
Matsumoto does so, Boeing to the fans before laying on his side like a fish in the middle of the ring. He originally faces the camera, then turns away because he’s corpsing.
-
YH continues: “YOH, I know you want to do this…”
-
YOH (back on Jcomms) comes in and fishes with Matsumoto, who then turns around again.
-
Goto/YH/YOH do the Zanmai while Matsumoto flops like a fish. He ends up on his stomach and the camera pointedly and understandably removes him from frame.
-
Everyone celebrates, Matsumoto and YOH leave the ring and Bishamon celebrate a little more.
