Is it true that Japanese people are very serious about their work?

I often see opinions online saying that Japanese people take their work very seriously and work with a strong sense of pride.
That’s true for some people, but as a Japanese person myself, I also know that there are actually quite a lot of people who aren’t like that.

For those of you who are from outside Japan, how do you feel about this image of Japanese people being diligent workers?
