We have it in Brazil, if I am not mistaken it is produced locally too….
It’s the latest trend, probably spiked by those pretty photos and videos on social media. Like all trends, it will soon pass for the next hype. It would be a huge mistake to overinvest in production today with the expectation of increasing demand in the future.
There was a similar craze for Dalgona coffee (anyone still remember those?) a few years back and look where it is now.
TLDR: “Damn gaijin are buying too much of our matcha, now obaasans can’t afford it! There go those foreigners again ruining Japan!”
I just got back from eating dinner across this fancy matcha shop in nyc and there was such a long line in this brick ass weather. Crazy
