1. Lately, coffee has been screwing up my circadian rhythm. Coffee in Japan hasn’t done this to me before but for the past week, it’s been royally messing me up.

   I knocked out at 11PM and woke up wide awake at 3AM on Christmas morning.

   I don’t think I’ve ever been this annoyed at the world telling me to lay off the coffee.

2. We had to take our child for an emergency to a clinic yesterday. Nearly all of the other patients are old, old, old and masked. The one young person (besides our child) and the one person with obvious respiratory distress, coughing and wiping his nose on the back of his hand, is without a mask.

3. Merry Christmas everyone!

   I’m here to complain about Christmas in Japan lol. God the holiday is just so… Wrong here. A lot of people gripe about the commercialisation of Christmas over the past few decades, but good god is it nowhere more apparent than Japan.

   EDIT- My complaint is that I woke up at 5am and couldn’t get back to sleep! Going to be a long day…

5. Old people who don’t a have a clue what マナーモード is.

   Everytime I witness someone watching something on their phone at full volume it’s always a jiji or baba. My local Tully’s is a magnet for these people.

   * One of my outside taps broke and I have to dig up and replace the whole thing to the pipe underground due to anti-consumer one-piece BS
   * Lost my favorite hat somewhere in a bounenkai/Xjikai
   * Bought a game I really expected to enjoy but did not. Graphics and sound were great, had an old RPG vibe, but poor gameplay and bugs; refunded it (thankfully)
   * Creepy junk collector guy I posted about (who thankfully has not come back, but still)
   * My body has decided that days are no longer 24 hours for whatever reason and my sleep schedule is a wreck

8. My work installed some digital system that monitors toilet stall vacancy. The system is funded by advertising. They have installed little screens in the loos. Now I am advertised to every time I sit down on the toilet.

   Haruo Kitamura spouting off literal racial essentialism on nationwide TV, followed by Horiemon diving in two footed with the “that’s waysis!” comment but not bothering to back it up at all, meaning Kitamura (and Kamiya) got to play the “We’re just following the data, but everyone attacks us based on emotion” card unopposed.

   I know I shouldn’t care about anything on Fuji TV, but this really pissed me off.

10. Working on Christmas. Nuff said.

12. The world doesn’t exactly owe it to me but I hate working on this day even if WFH. At least my wife is not working today so small wins.

13. The lengths one has to go to to avoid skin drying. Moisturizers are so fucking icky wtf.
    Anyway, happy Christmas while at work 😅

14. Just recovered from a post-vacation stomach bug only for my wife to come down with her own cold-type thing. Plain white rice and thin broth for both of us, merry christmas etc.

15. My internet now randomly dies for a couple of minutes every day…maybe it’s time I switched providers 

16. My 14 month old daughter has been consistently waking up every night crying and takes a while to settle. My husband and I are taking turns every night sleeping with her to soothe her, but we’re exhausted.

17. Someone’s moving in to the 建売 home across from us and paid a contractor to build a carport. Our street is small and a dead end so they are blocking in half the homes with their three vans and truck. Plus no one from the contracting company came to introduce themselves and say ‘sorry for the inconvenience, it’s gonna take x amount of days’ which is something every single home on this block has done with construction work. I don’t want to hear these noises today and I don’t want to hear their loud-ass radio. 

18. School is over and now I’m back in the office until next year. This gives me ample time to work on my own projects, but somehow they always end up pushing menial work on us ALTs during that period. I’m not complaining, since at least they pay me full for all days I’m not at school. But I still gotta rant…

    ALWAYS they have misprints, or people that changed and now we gotta sticker over XYZs name on 5 different pages in these 500 books we want to send out. Another time we have to put an insert into 2000 pamphlets that they forgot. Now the superintendent changed and I gotta strike out the old name twice in 4 blocks of , idk, about 500 pages each. AND MY COLLEAGUE WENT HOME FOR CHRISTMAS because he can afford to do it every year because he doesn’t have family here, whereas I can never afford to go home ever because I have 2 kids and while my salary is enough to live here it’s not enough to leave the country with 4 people!

    Edit: I don’t have 4 kids, I have 2, so 4 family members.

19. Complaint 2, because boss has been whining he’s feeling unwell. Well it’s he who decided to attend drinking parties almost daily since maybe the start of December. Same guy who’s been told to take care of his liver because his parameters are no longer within ABC in the kenkou shindan. Still generally a great guy, but dude…

20. two weeks ago I told a service manager to tell a customer that their truck’s turbo charger is dying – making sounds and we need to replace it. customer said not this time.

    literally after a day turbo died while hauling a heavy load. engine oil went into intercooler then DPF and caught fire middle of the road, fire brigade had to come and put the fire off.

    then I had to replace/ repair everything again, replacing turbo charger, complete replacement of the DPF unit, clean all the exhaust pipe because of leftover burnt oil, replace the turbo intercooler, replace exhaust manifold and change gaskets , basically everything had to be cleaned of oil spillage.

    bro non of these wouldn’t have happened if you just replaced the damn turbocharger when I told you to 🥴😩.

21. someone posted this last week but Amazon service has sucked recently… 3 orders showed shipped.. never delivered.. then an email that they had an address problem… called and they told me the address is ok but something else was wrong and they shipped it back to the company??

    going to stop ordering from them

22. Do no good western movies get released in theaters here anymore? It is all avatar, zootoopia or Japanese anime these days. I’m not 12. I want to watch a normal good movie on a big screen.

23. Yesterday the radio was playing “idol Christmas songs” all day.  Modern Christmas songs are straight up garbage (not modern renditions of classic/traditional songs).  Just add some bells and it’s a Christmas song.

    Say what you want about Mariah and that song, but at least she can hold a fucking note.  This idol crap is all auto-tune/pitch-corrected slop.  It sounds terrible, is an insult to art, and is far from Christmas.

    All day this stuff was playing at work.  And today is “winter love songs”, so more fucking bells.  Send help.
