Kyoto crowds – asking as a Japanese

So- I avoid Kyoto like the plague due to the overcrowding. I haven’t been in years, wondering how it is now? Like currently? I’m on a roadtrip with some family and they want to go to Kyoto on the way back but I can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather not go lol. Asking because thankfully I hear the Chinese tourists have lessened
