I live and work in Japan at the moment and have been on winter break for about the last two weeks. During my winter vacation, I went on a trip where I reserved a rental in the Mt. Fuji area and needed to take my IDP with me.
Just before I went to get the rental, I realized my IDP wasn’t in my luggage even though I swore I had packed it. Since I’d taken both a bus and the shinkansen up, I thought I’d lost it somewhere between my apartment and the airbnb I was staying in.
I have to drive to work because I live in the countryside and immediately panicked. After crying over it and checking all of my luggage twice, I got my sister, who lives in my hometown, to get a new IDP on my behalf.
Well, I got home yesterday after my trip and found the thing sitting on my desk. I had never actually packed it. I wouldn’t be so worried about it except that, as the title states, I’m in the process of obtaining a Japanese driver’s license. I had completed my paperwork check right before my break and I just booked my appointment to take the written and practical exams today. I have a new IDP coming to me in the mail and I don’t know how that’s going to complicate things.
What should I do? Is my original IDP invalid now? Am I going to have to re-do my paperwork check?
