Hello all!
This was my first new year in Japan and so I bought the omamori to carry for the year and provide luck/protection. I know we should return them to the shrines for burning at the end of the year, but is it bad to keep the exterior pouch at the end of the year and send the interior prayer back for burning? Upon research I couldn’t find a clear answer, just that opening it breaks the prayer, but if I wait until 2027 does that still matter? The exterior pouches are so pretty and I know the designs change yearly, so it would be nice to save those.
