I’m planning a trip to Hokkaido in February 2027 to see the Sapporo Snow Festival, and I’d really appreciate some travel advice/tips from folks who’ve been there before.

I’m trying to balance convenience, atmosphere, and access to the festival sites. Which neighborhoods or hotels are your top recommendations for staying in Sapporo during the festival? Are there areas that make it especially easy to walk between the festival sites, restaurants, and transport?

I also want to explore some relaxing onsen towns/Ryokans near Sapporo. Which ones would you suggest for a day trip or an overnight stay? Any favorites that are easy to reach by train/bus, and great in February?
- Weather in February – what to wear
I know Hokkaido gets cold in winter – what’s typical February weather like in Sapporo and surrounding areas? Any advice on what clothing and gear to bring (boots, layers, etc.) to stay warm and comfortable while walking around the snow festival?
