Hi everyone, my partner and I are heading back to Japan for our third visit in December 2026 for our honeymoon. Since we’ve already hit the "Golden Route" and some popular side trips, we’re looking for some fresh inspiration for a 2-week itinerary.
More information about or plans:
- Arriving in Tokyo on December 1st.
- We’re starting with the Chichibu Yomatsuri (Dec 2nd–3rd), which we have read that is an incredible festival (one of the three grandest float festivals in Japan and is a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage)
- Places we’ve already been: Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Kanazawa, Shirakawago, Mt. Fuji (Churehito pagoda and the flower festival) and Kinosaki-onsen.
- Immediately after our 2 weeks in Japan, we’re flying to Australia to continue the honeymoon. Because we’ll be carrying a mix of summer and winter gear, we want to avoid "heavy snow" destinations (like Hokkaido). We’ll have jackets and layers, but we are not going to be equipped for copious amount of snow.
We’d love recommendations for regions or cities that offer a great vibe for a honeymoon but stay relatively mild (or at least manageable) in early December. We enjoy a mix of culture, great food, and maybe some nice ryokan stays that aren't too far off the beaten path. Thanks in advance for all of your help!
