I’m a 25 year old male and I’m going to be solo traveling through Japan for my first time and am looking for some help and insight as to what part of Tokyo I should stay in. I want to try some good food do some shopping and try some of the nightlife. I’ve been looking at shinjuku, shibuya or ginza but am not sure what would be the best place to have as my home base for my trip. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has any good hotel/hostel recommendations too!

Within a 10 minute walk to a Yamanote line station or subway, it doesn’t really matter where you stay in central Tokyo.
Those are convenient locations of course. But Shibuya and Shinjuku is basically where everyone and their mothers go, especially the first timers. Basically the “tutorial zone” of Tokyo.
Personally, I liked Ikebukuro and Ebisu much. Sumida wasn’t bad either, but a bit off-side from the city center.
Hmm…
Try Takadanobaba, it’s between Shinjuku and Ikebukuro and between two universities. Lots of students live and go out in that area and it’s not as much of a top pick for tourists so it doesn’t command a premium price.

You could also try to go south of Shibuya in Daikanyama/Ebisu or Meguro?
