After having a reaction to a very small amount of butter chicken curry, my son went in today for testing of a cashew allergy (Results aren’t back yet, but very likely cashew allergy).
At the hospital we asked about a test for pistachio as well, because it has similar proteins, but they said they don’t have a test for pistachio; basically, if there is a cashew allergy, pistachios should also be avoided …that’s what they said at least.
I’d like to be able to know for sure though. There must be some place that can do more specialized testing? Also, they only did a blood test, and I’m wondering if there are places that will do more advanced kind of testing (Is the blood test enough to know severity)? This is a large municipal hospital and we needed a referral, but I’ve heard there are places that deal with specialized treatments and such for more common allergens (like eggs), but is cashew just too rare?
Hoping there might be other folks here who have experience with a less common food allergy.
