Hey everyone! At the end of June, I’ll be traveling to Japan with my dad. This will be my third time visiting, but it’s his first. On my previous trips I never stayed at a ryokan (mostly because of the price) but this time I really want him to experience some unique and memorable things.
We’re planning to spend one night in Kinosaki, and while researching ryokans I came across Nishimura Honkan. I managed to book a stay with a Tajima beef kaiseki dinner for about $700 USD for the two of us, and I’m honestly super excited because it looks incredible. That said, I can’t help but wonder if the price tag is truly worth it. I know there are plenty of ryokans available for much less, so I’m curious whether the higher cost really makes a noticeable difference in the experience.
I’m torn between spending $700 on one night with dinner versus putting that money toward several really great meals instead. I’d love to hear your advice or personal experiences. For context, I’m 24 and my dad is 59, and he’s really into comfort.
Also if anyone has any cool experience recommendation for someone that’s not that big into history or museums I would appreciate it!
